8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. Good+ copy in blue cloth on boards with cream paper title label on spine. Boards are crisp and clean. Endpapers have an inscription and attractive coloured bookplate pasted in. Text and b/w and colour plates are clean and firm though folio edges have sporadic foxing. Altogether an attractive copy.
Anyone interested in nature, birds, or Antarctica will enjoy this book. Edward Wilson is an inspiration for any amatuer naturalist and birder. He was a dogged observer with unflagging energy and enthusiasm for all his endeavors, even ovecoming TB when he was in his 20s to go on and reach the South Pole on the second Scott Expedition (where he unfortunately persished along with three others). His life and work are a testament to the human spirit and the reward that comes from a life of studying nature close up. Wilson's artwork was superb and this book contains numerous samples. An entertaining read.
