This book is a great book about survival. Not really about the techniques of surviving but about the psychology of surviving. The title captures the intention: deep survival. The "deep" refers to the mental frame of mind; not just for the weekend hikers but also for the seasoned outdoor enthusiast. This book opened my mind to the fact that nature is all about dynamic energy and sometimes we get caught in the throes of the change. We call that "getting caught in the.... (storm, etc.)". There is no judgment about nature being "vicious" or being "nice", it's only about what is happening in the moment. And the only way to live (i.e. survive) is to notice what is happening in the moment. Deep Survival is another reminder of how to be in nature: read the weather by looking at the clouds, read the landmarks when hiking, notice what is happening around you. The author summarizes the lessons learned in their own chapter that changed the way I am in nature. Be here now.

Risk your life
Interesting accounts of people who risk their lives in thrill seeking situations . Really not much about survival but about how easy it is to make bad judgements in crucial situations. The autyhor is great at recreating the scenes
