While Tom Farmer snoozes the animals are whooping it up in the farmhouse! Cows in the kitchen, moo, moo, moo. Ducks on the dresser, quack, quack, quack. Pigs in the pantry, oink, oink, oink...When Tom Farmer wakes up from his nap in the haystack he finds pandemonium in the farmhouse! Out of the farmhouse, shoo, shoo, shoo, he send the animals back to the yard. But it isn't long before Tom Farmer's fast asleep again - and the cows, the ducks, the pigs, the hens and the sheep come creeping back into the farmhouse to have some more fun! Adapted from the traditional nonsense song, this rambustious picture book is perfect for reading - or singing - aloud!

Publishers Weekly, 2003-07-07 Picture book favorites return in a board book format just right for smallest hands. A lazy farmer presides over the wacky doings of Cows in the Kitchen by June Crebbin, illus. by Katharine McEwen, set to the rhythms of "Skip to My Lou." The animals invade the house while the farmer dozes in the haystack. "The merriment of this mischievous book is contagious," wrote PW. (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
Publishers Weekly, 1998-07-13 Lending itself to a sing-along rather than a read-aloud (the text can be sung to the tune of "Skip to My Lou"), the merriment of this mischievous book is contagious. Barnyard animal sounds punctuate Crebbin's (Into the Castle) catchy text: "Ducks in the dishes, quack, quack, quack [repeat twice]/ That's what we do, Tom Farmer!" After seeing the animals wreaking havoc in the house, readers spy the farmer sleeping in the haystack, who chases the animals out and promptly falls asleep in an armchair. Crebbin's clever pacing comes into play as the prankster animals sneak in with a "shhh, shhh, shhh," and pounce on the innocently dozing fellow. McEwen makes a splash of a debut with her bustling, highly animated, slightly flattened cartoon drawings. High-stepping cows balance bottles on their noses, lick Jell-O and smash dishes; ducks make themselves comfortable in the cupboard, cozying up in a teapot and pilfering sugar cubes; sheep bounce and flop happily on the sofa. The broadly smiling troublemakers are an irresistible crew, ready to ambush unsuspecting readers as well with their rambunctious gaiety. Ages 2-5. (Aug.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
