Charlie Bucket desperately wants to eat more than cabbage soup every day. But, even more than that, he longs to have a specially conducted tour of Wonka's enormous chocolate factory. The Golden Ticket allows Charlie to fulfill his wish, and he finds himself in a 'world of mystic and marvellous surprises'. But there are dangers in store as well as the mesmerizing delights of Eatable Marshmallow Pillows and Lickable Wallpaper, especially for such unlovable characters as Veruca Salt, who disappears down the Great Rubbish Chute, or Augustus Gloop who falls into a river of hot melted chocolate...The famous story of Charlie Bucket and his Golden Ticket, and Willy Wonka and his amazing chocolate factory is a timeless story which continues to delight and enthrall each new generation. Roald Dahl, the best-loved of children's writers, was born in Wales of Norwegian parents. His books continue to be bestsellers, despite his death in 1990, and total sales are over 100 million worldwide! Quentin Blake is one of the best-known and best-loved children's illustrators and it's impossible now to think of Roald Dahl's writings without imagining Quentin Blake's illustrations. Quentin Blake is one of Britain's most successful illustrators. His first drawings were published in Punch when he was sixteen. He has illustrated nearly three hundred books and he was Roald Dahl's favourite illustrator. He has won many awards including the Whitbread Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal. Besides being an illustrator he taught for over twenty years at the Royal College of Art and in 1999 he became the first ever Children's Laureate! Six years later he was awarded a CBE for services to children's literature and in 2013 he was knighted in the New Year's Honours - which means his full title is Sir Quentin Blake, although we can still all go on calling him Quentin as usual.Read Less

Great book. My 5 yr old son loves the movie, the old one and the new Depp one. We are reading one chapter per night to him. He just loves it. The umpa loompa songs are great and long and different than the movie. The book just shows how much the first movie missed and the second movie really tried to stay true to the book. Back the book, it has some really cool black and white pics at the beginning of each chapter.......we are almost finished is but I think I know how it ends..."Charlie lives happily ever after"

A Great Book! It was funny and strange. If you have watched the new movie, this is so unlike it. The movie is dark and a little scary, but this book is fun and very imaginative. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie, I'm just saying that this book is very differant . I recommend it for kids 8-13
