Very engrossing story of the 1956 hungarian uprising, which sadly has largely faded from our collective memory. Still, there was undaunted heroism and it presaged by many years the very same nationalist surges that ultimately brought down the Soviet empire. Very readable, but the part about the torture of prisoners is revolting. Be warned.
Not James Michner as you normally expect. However the book is right on a little known historical event. Some of the people in the book are composites instead of 100% authentic. This is used to condense the details. I enjoyed reading the book.
