Signed on front end paper by author, with 1951 under the signature. States on copyright page 'this book was especially published in a limited Edition for the Iron Ore Centennial'. Illustrated with b/w photographs. "There is more color per square foot in the Iron River District than any other place I know of....on the early lumbering and mining days of that rugged section of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a factual account of the struggle for a living between the ore and the pine, the fabulous characters who lived there [sic---many still do], the plank-walk days, the wide open saloons, the red iron ore streets and the village life of that era". A great history of a still largely unpopulated, gorgeous, natural part of Michigan, where urban life and much of modern 'necessities' seem a long way away.
