Her mother always used to say that any ailment in the world - physical or emotional - could be cured by a little Nantucket sand between the toes. The three women need all the help Nantucket can offer: Brenda has just lost her prestigious job as a professor of literature; Melanie, who has been struggling for years to have a baby, has just discovered that she is pregnant - and that her husband is having an affair; Vicki herself has been diagnosed with cancer and is facing months of treatment. Although they have the best of intentions and plan to support one another while enjoying the summer, the women soon find life in a cramped cottage with only one bathroom not quite the idyll they imagined. When put-upon babysitter Brenda places a 'help wanted' ad, the three women find salvation in the form of Josh, home from college for the summer. Soon Josh is part of the chaotic household, acting as childminder, confidant and, eventually something more.Read Less
Very good. Appearance of only slight previous use. Cover and binding show a little wear. All pages are undamaged with potentially only a few, small markings. Help save a tree. Buy all your used books from Thriftbooks. Read. Recycle and Reuse.
I loved this book and would recommend it for anyone who cares about their friends. The description of the scenery is breathtaking as well. I will definitely read this book again.

A new author for me to enjoy!
A perfect beach read. I guess you could call it chick lit but on more of an upscale level. After about 20 pages I was thoroughly sucked into the book. I have to admit at first I wasn't too fond of the main three characters: the frequently vomiting pregnant friend, the beautiful, self-absorbed younger sister, and the martyred, ill older sister. It seemed like they only tolerated each other and I began to wonder if I would barely be able to tolerate them too but after a while we learn more about the characters, to appreciate them, and really get into the story . I usually read a book over the period of a week but finished this in two days (and that's with a bad cold!). Only one thing I would like to know, where were the mature 22 year old guys like Josh when I was in my 20s? and maybe my early 30s? ;-)
This won't be my last Hilderbrand book.
