Roosevelt was president of the United States from 1901 to1909. Roosevelt was also a ranch rider, ornithologist, big game hunter, and soldier, as well as being a writer and a voracious reader. This is an early reprint (1900) in a fine binding of his published AMERICAN IDEALS. 259 pages. The book measures 4 1/4 in. X 6 3/4 in. And is bound in fine leather over the spine area and leather on each corner. The balance of the front and back boards are marbled and the end papers are marbled. A stamp of the previous owner is on the first free end page and on the tissue separating the frontispiece from the title page. Top edge of book is gilded. Minor rubbing to top and bottom edges. One of the scarcer of TR's books, a publication that includes patriotic and political essays as well as autobiographical chapters about his early public life, experiences in the New York legislature, six years of civil service reform, his term as NYC police commissioner, the vice=presidency and the 1896 campaign.
