But the contrary Collie - incredibly loyal but incredibly misbehaved - never settles down. Jon tries everything, obedience training, changing his name from Devon to Orson, even acupuncture, and it all helps a little, but not enough. Together Jon and Orson chase sheep across high meadows, wade through snow, bask by a roaring stove and struggle to keep faith in each other. A story of great joy and heartbreak, in "A Good Dog" Jon faces the most difficult decision any dog lover has to make.Hide synopsis

Jon Katz is a great, desciptive writer. This book delves into the life of a formerly abused dog who comes to live with Jon. Although Jon goes to extreme measures to save his crazed dog (who attacks school buses) the hilarity and obvious love are evident. In a period of time when we wonder if anybody cares, this book shows neighbors and friends who seek to help Jon and Orson as they both grow to greatness.
Jon explores the dog's previous life and makes an ultimate decision which is quite painful. How far are we willing to go to save our beloved dogs?
Although I am not sure I relate well with Jon himself, I do appreciate his honesty and willingness to explore his decisions. And of course, I fell in love with Orson from the start.
I was very moved by this book,it pulled at my heart strings all the way through until the end. I recommend anyone whom owns a dog and feels a special connection with them that they have not felt with their other pets should read this book. I have felt this way about my dog from the past,we shared a special bond like no other,I probably will never feel this way again. I cried throughout the book, you cannot read it without it touching your heart and soul.
