The summons turns out to be a false alarm, but on his way back to his family, Jay has a car accident and is killed instantly. Dancing back and forth in time and braiding the viewpoints of Jay's wife, brother, and young son, Rufus, Agee creates an overwhelming powerful novel of innocence, tenderness, and loss that should be read for the sheer music of its prose.Hide synopsis

Nice book, which meets all first issue points i.e. "Walking" for "Waking" on page 80 and title page printed in blue. There are barely visable tape marks (about 1/2" X 1/4") to the top and bottom of both covers (4 in all) where a dustjacket had been attached. It really sounds worse than it is. The dustjacket has a few minor edge wrinkles otherwise is in very nice condition, the blue cloth boards have very minor fading to the edges otherwise in very nice condition, a little vaseline lightly rubbed into the cloth will preserve and shine the cloth while at the same time almost erase any visable tape outlines. 339 pages.
