I Like Short Shorts

by yevgenya on Oct 11, 2010

How do you like your refreshments? Here is a fantastical compendia of stories to which brevity is the starring asset. Each story is a jewel shining transcendently through every noncolor of the galaxybow. Every situation is most improbable, and this in a genre in short shorts noted for its extrapolating possibilities, and its ending punch! Note, to wit: "The Mathematicians" by Arthur Feldman: never has three plus three equalled seven so resoundingly. Ah, math - the most precise language, is it not? Then, there is Cyril Kornbluth's "The Altar at Midnight" which has a poignancy to die for. Its end will leave you with a double flummox. Lastly, "An Egg a Month from All Over" from the pen of the ingenious Ms Idris Seabright will have you perceive that you got what you asked for, and more. How happy can one human get? You won't have to decide just yet; you've got forty-seven more adventures to imbibe. How do I like MY refreshments? Why, with a twist!
